WRAPA Islamic Family Law (IFL) Project, conducts training for Upper & Lower Shari’a Court Judges

WRAPA Islamic Family Law Trains Judges

 The Women’s Rights Advancement and Protection Alternative (WRAPA), on the wings of its Islamic Family Law (IFL) Project and with the support of the MacArthur Foundation, conducted a training workshop for Upper & Lower Shari’a Court Judges on the 5th – 6th and 6th – 7th February, 2018 in Jigawa and Zamfara States of Nigeria respectively.

 

The essence of this training was to;

  1. Address some of the knowledge gaps at the level of administrators of Islamic Family Law matters
  2. Provide insights and response to the issues around the administration of Khul’i divorce
  3. Make judicial process less cumbersome to even clientele.
  4. Disseminating & Contextualizing the WRAPA IFL research findings
  5. Increasing awareness to achieve shifts in practice & policies in the administration of Islamic Family Matters
  6. Highlighting controversies deterring women to seek justice

This training workshop was organized with the overall goals of achieving;

  1. Women’s improved access to justice
  2. Reduced gaps in administration of Family law matters Improved standards of response in Upper & Lower Shari’a Courts

WRAPA’s IFL Project Conducts a 2-Day Capacity Building on Monitoring & Evaluation For its Project Focal Persons and Staff

WRAPA IFL Monitoring & Evaluation Day 1

WRAPA’s IFL project conducted a 2-day capacity building workshop on Monitoring & Evaluation, on the 12th-13th of June, 2017 in the FCT-Abuja for its Project Focal persons and Staff. With the processes and products of the IFL project being institutionalized, expectations on an improved and robust M & E system were woven into the third phase of the project. This was an imperative for:

  1. Scaling up, refining and institutionalizing the project approach,
  2. Testing its results, documenting and sharing the lessons learnt around project effectiveness and delivery,
  3. Generating evidence of impact for project management and planning towards sustainability

With this in perspective, and in an attempt to ensure that project focal persons &staff comprehend and deploy knowledge of Monitoring & Evaluation principles,result chains, tools and documentation, a two(2) day capacity enhancement workshop was put together on the wings of the WRAPA IFL project. This was in order to equip them with the knowledge required to effectively achieve quality M & E and performance reporting. The workshop covered the understanding of M&E concept and its implication for the third phase and sustainability of the IFL project, training in use of Excel workbook, worksheets, and tracking tools, training on performance report writing.

At the end of the workshop, all participants;

  1. Improved their capacity to use MS-Excel
  2. Improved their performance Report writing techniques
  3. Improved  their understanding of M&E context of IFL Phase III

WRAPA’S IFL Project Kicks off Phase III of the project; A One Day Institutional Consultation Meeting With Imamate Institution.

WRAPA’s Islamic Family Law (IFL) Project, funded by MacArthur Foundation, held a one day institutional consultation meeting with the imamate institution of Jigawa State in Dutse, Jigawa State.

The event was graced by the Secretary to the State Government, Jigawa State representing the Governor of Jigawa State, The Emir of Dutse and the Imamate Institution of Jigawa State, comprising of 30 imams, 10 imams from each three senatorial zones of Jigawa State.‎
